For those attending the University of South Florida and looking for current events to get involved with, the city of Tampa has plenty to offer.
Tampa is known for its quality lifestyle and fantastic weather, but it is an excellent place to call home, especially if you want to find yourself enjoying festive activities. While the weather is still warm in November, here is a look at some of the best things to do this month.
One of the best things to do for those who want to have some fun is to visit the Museum of Science & Industry. There are a lot of events taking place here throughout November and the rest of the year. A fun place to start is with Science After Dark: Carnival of Games. It takes place on November 5th. It focuses on physics and engineering skills – if you know the answer, you win. It’s a carnival-style event that has great fun involved. Visitors can also play Beat Safer using the Oculus Rift and drink adult liquid nitrogen ice cream. There are numerous labs involved, too.
Even college students will fall in love with this location at The Shops at Wiregrass. The Fresh Market at Wiregrass is an excellent experience. There are lots of potted plants and flowers, but numerous artisan creations, too. When you’re thinking about holiday gifts, visiting a craftsman-like, this is a must in November. There are over 50 vendors here, all located right off Paseo Drive. Find good foods, too, such as salsas, dips, and oils. Eco-friendly products are also heavily represented in the market. It’s an excellent way to spend the morning of November 6th with a group of friends. Bring some extra cash to shop at the mall while here, too.
On November 6th, you can take in the Multicultural Festival. It takes place at the Westshore Plaza in the afternoon. Why visit? Numerous vendors and displays are honoring and discussing the cultures present in Tampa. There is music and dance on the show. This festival is a day to celebrate not a single culture but the cultural diversity that makes up the area. You’ll see a lot during the event, including an African fashion show and Arabian belly dancing. There’s lots of food available to purchase and gifts that represent many cultures on display, too. Learn about others, but also find items that are handmade to support artisans in the Tampa area.
Tampa’s weather makes it easy to spend a bit more time outdoors. That’s why, every week on Sunday, you can visit the Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park to enjoy some yoga, right there in the park. Yoga in the Park happens each week and, during November, when college students are struggling with tests and assignments, there may not be anything better than relaxing and unwinding. It takes place every Sunday at 10:30 am. There’s no cost. The Tampa Parks & Recreation Department hosts it, Essentially You Yoga, and Robin LC Yoga. You do not have to have any experience to get started with it, either.
This is one thing that brings a lot of college students out to explore and experience it. That’s because the Tampa Scavenger Hunt is the type of adventure that is perfect for those who want to get to know the city, spend time outdoors, and maybe even learn something along the way. It takes place on the weekends at 371 S. Franklin Street in Tampa. It occurs between 2 pm and 4 pm each day. It’s much like a tour around the city to explore its historical, artistic, and cultural aspects. The hunt includes an excellent number o experiences, including walking along the Tampa Riverwalk, checking out the University of Tampa campus, and seeing the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. If you have not had the chance to head out to see Tampa yet, this is one way to do so.
Want something more straightforward to do? Why not catch a movie on the lawn? It happens on November 15th and is hosted by Heights Public Market. Bring along a blanket and some food for yourself. It takes place at 1910 N. Ola Avenue. This year, the movie is The Blind Side, and it starts at 7 pm. It may be a fun way to have some fun with a few friends.
